Bella the Beautiful

Throughout the ages, we all have gazed up at the sky. Many see just dots of light flickering and weaving above us while others see their history, their ancestry, even the legends that have made them the people and race that they are today. As I look upon the midnight sky, a certain grouping of stars catch my eye and with a small smile upon my face I reflect upon what they are.

To other races it may have a totally different meaning, but to me and my race, the Humans, the constellation is named in the language of the old, Bella et Pulchritudinous, which down through the ages has become Bella the Beautiful. It consists of nine stars, two triangles separated by some distance, with one having two tiny stars inside of it, while a single star separates the two triangles closer to one than the other. They say if you look closely you will see that the stars make up the body of a woman, the triangles making the body, and the face with two eyes staring out, being the two stars inside the second triangle. While the single star in the middle is her unwavering heart.

The legend behind this constellation is a tragic one, though filled with hope. Years before anyone can ever remember they say there was once this lady named Bella. A most beautiful and special woman with whom men fell in love with at first glance. She could have had any man that had crossed her path but it is told, that her heart was already given years before to a man she had met as a child. Hero worship her family called it and told her that the man, one named Molancco, was not of her stature and that she would never belong to him. She was furious with her family for forbidding her the one thing she so desperately wanted…love. So instead of marrying she swore that she would remain unwed, unclaimed by anyone except for her true love.

Now as the story goes, the man Molancco had no clue what was transpiring back where Bella lived. He was living his life, taking a wife and having babes of his own without even knowing that he had stolen the heart of a young lady far away from him. Throughout the years he would hear of Bella’s family and how she refused to marry but never considered himself being the reason and so continued on with his life in a state of oblivion.

Meanwhile, as legend says, Bella grew older, and every night she would lay down on her bed and gaze out her window, her eyes locked on the stars, whispering soft prayers that her love would return and claim her. Days turned to months to years and yet her hope and love never wavered.

Some say that she died of old age, some say of a broken heart. All we know from what has been passed down is one night she stood at the window, her tears streaming down her face as she gazed across the lands. They say she stepped onto the ledge and jumped, but instead of plummeting to her death, her body was surrounding in bright lights, shimmering and sparkling as they surrounded her and carried her body up towards the sky until a large explosion of light covered the midnight sky. When they looked up her body had simply disappered, but in its place they saw shining in the sky nine new stars and they knew that the stars were Bella… Bella the Beautiful now ever watching over her love from above until eternity.

As legend goes, they say that if you gaze upon the constellation at midnight and pray to Bella, you will find that your life will soon be filled with all the love you could imagine.
