The bright cluster of 23 stars make up the black jaguar which include two large, deep blue stars (close together) which could look like cat eyes. The rest of the stars are brilliant white and form an outline of a slinking Jaguar. There is a swirling blackness within the cluster of stars which is why the early humans named it after the rare and elusive Black Jaguar. The early humans (and some modern still do) used to believe that the Black Jaguar was the keeper of the circular time continuum, as well as being the gatekeeper to the unknowable. Hence this cluster of stars became the black jaguar.

The Eolai believe that this Black Jaguar is a symbol of the twilight god Aiba Lli because of the deep shifting blackness between the cluster and the two deep blue stars that resemble cat eyes. The Eolai sometimes will secretly look to this cluster of stars to empower oneself, facilitate soul work and for psychic sight.

The Darju, though not religious have a deep respect for the Black Jaguar and the cluster of stars that is its namesake. They respect the hunting prowess of the Black Jaguar and try to mimic the great cats’ ability to move without fear in darkness, to see roads within chaos, and also to learn and understand those roads of chaos.
