Rikiar Vandalarius says, "I'm going to breif you all on how justice is going to work, afterward, I'll take questions."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "Brief even."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "Currently, only murder is coded. Poisoning is a way to murder someone, so fair warning."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "Trevor is working on stealing, and subsequently, stealing will become a crime in Llanfair."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "Once you get caught committing a crime, you will be marked as a criminal."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "At this point, you will be able to be arrested by anyone who is a trooper or merc AND eligable."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "Ok, you have the option of resisting arrest."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "You can ONLY be arrested if you've been subdued first."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "Subdued is, prone, kneeling, sitting, or stunned."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "As the officer performing the arrest, you do NOT need to be the one to get the perp into one of these positions."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "You CAN get help from others."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "However, if they kill the criminal while in a jurisdiction of Llanfair, they too will become a criminal. So fair warning again."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "Mercenaries don't operate within the limits of Llanfair's jurisdiction, so they have the option of using less gentle methods."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "Mercenaries, you can't arrest people in town, Troopers, you can't arrest people outside town."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "Mercenaries and troopers will need to purchase special handcuffs, which I believe will be available in the trooper headquarters."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "Now, once a person is arrested, doesn't mean they will necessarily go quietly."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "Criminals STILL have the option to resist arrest by attacking their arresting officer.

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "As a deterrant, there is a built in function in the handcuffs."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "If your subject gets out of hand, you press a button on the handcuffs and the criminal gets a nice jolt that stuns them for about 30 seconds."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "Only the person performing the arrest may drag an arrested person. Anyone else, tough luck."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "Ok, now once you get your subject to the booking office in the headquarters, you book them and you've done your part."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "The rest of the system is pretty much automated."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "The criminal will be stripped of anything useful to them, given prison issue clothing and stuck in a holding cell to await trial."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "At this point, a message will be sent to any active bureaucrats to head to the courthouse to plead your case.

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "If any choose to be there, they will be there."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "Once you are brought before the judge, you will be instructed to either A. Plead your own case, B. Have someone else plead your case, or C. Plead guilty."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "Each option has it's own benefits and drawbacks."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "Option A is a good option if you have knowledge of the law, or are really persuasive."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "If not, you'll probably end up burying yourself further."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "Option B is good if the person arguing for you has good knowledge of the law, or are really persuasive."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "Otherwise, they'll bury you."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "Any payment offered for the person pleading your case is between you and them."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "Option C. is good if you can't do either A or B successfully."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "Once you've committed to one of the options, you do NOT have the choice of choosing the others."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "You also do NOT have the option of leaving the courtroom until you have been either convicted, or absolved."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "You will be chained to your chair to keep you from leaving."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "Ok, IF you are fined, your items will be held until the fine is paid."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "If you are sent to prison, you will also likely receive a fine."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "The local prison is called Ttathki Prison."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "It is very, very big."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "When you arrive at prison, you will be again searched and issued new clothing."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "You will also be placed in a cell."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "The cell you are placed in will be random."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "There are 24 total cells NOT on death row."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "There are 4 cells on death row."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "And ALOT of rooms in between."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "If you are placed in a cell with another player, you'll have someone to talk to."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "If you are placed in a cell alone, you get to talk to yourself."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "Magic of all forms is disabled in the prison due to the type of paint used on the walls."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "Now, each cell has a way to break out."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "It is up to you to figure out how."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "Once you are out of your cell. The fun isn't over."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "Guards will be roaming the halls, looking for escapees."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "The guards aren't very strong, as a matter of fact, they could probably be killed fairly quickly by Mellie."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "However, the guards have the option of calling in the prison troopers."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "Now... the prison troopers are nasty buggars."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "I doubt anyone would survive long against ONE. The guards will always call THREE."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "Ok, in order to NOT be attacked by the guards, you have to NOT look like a prisoner."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "That's the only clue I'm going to give on that."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "And the only other thing I can say about the prison is that the only way anyone has ever gotten out, is in a body bag."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "Oh... one more thing."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "If you are killed in prison, you will HAVE to restore."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "If you restore while in prison, they have their own recovery room where you will be cloned and placed back into a cell."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "One moment before I take questions."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "Not currently."

Mellie Knight asks, "Say I kill someone and get away with it. How long will I be "wanted"?"

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "Until you are arrested."

Mellie Knight grumbles under her breath.

Mellie Knight says, "There went that idea."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "There is no statute of limiations on murder."

• Kayce Camden is next.

Kayce Camden asks, "Is there going to be a medical ward there? and what happens if you get death row?"

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "Medical ward? I'm not sure what you mean. There will be an infirmary where you will be taken if you are killed. You will be immediately reprocessed and placed back in a cell however. If you get the death penalty, you will be forced to restore, at which point you will end up in the Llanfair hospital, just as if you restored normally."

Rikiar Vandalarius asks, "That answer your question?"

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "Just ask another question if that didn't clear it up for you."

• Feldspar Fletcher is next.

Feldspar Fletcher asks, "Can the handcuffs be removed other than boking a subdued subject?"

Feldspar Fletcher says, "Booking, rather."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "The arresting officer can remove them, or they will automatically disengage if the arresting officer dies."

Feldspar Fletcher nods.

Brenton Miller asks, "It sounded like when you said killing the perp would make you a murderer was for the people helping, what happens if the trooper kills them?"

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "If the trooper kills them, then they wont get credit for the arrest."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "I believe it also removes the person's criminal status."

Rikiar Vandalarius nods.

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "I'll have to get clarification from Morrigan on that one, but I believe that's how it will work."

You ask, "Will I be able to INTIMIDATE a judge?"

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "Yes, you can persuade, intimidate, or argue against the judge. Each method uses a different skill persuasion, intimidation, and law respectively."

You sit down.

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "If you need more clarification, talk to a Bureaucrat, the cases work identically between NPC and PC cases."

• Drusilla Monroe is next.

Drusilla Monroe says, "Will i be able to use magic if i am defending myself like dance of temptation or alluring aura."

Rikiar Vandalarius asks, "Defending yourself against arrest?"

Drusilla Monroe says, "As in arguing for myself in court."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "No, magic is disabled while you're the in the courtroom if you're on trial. Not to mention dancing is kind of difficult when you're chained to a chair."

Rikiar Vandalarius grins.

Drusilla Monroe nods.

Kit Murphy asks, "Wouldn't that make the death penalty the nicest sentence? Since you'll be free and not have to wait in jail?"

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "You also have to roll back to your last image."

Rikiar Vandalarius grins at Kit Murphy.

Kit Murphy says, "Ah, true."

Kit Murphy grins at Rikiar Vandalarius.

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "And take a death penalty on your experience."

Kit Murphy says, "Thanks."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "So... it's a tradeoff."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "The death penalty will not be an issue when justice is first released."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "I'm not adding the death penalty until I'm sure everything else works smoothly."

Kayce Camden asks, "So death is not final you actually just die and go on with life?"

Kayce Camden says, "Oh ok."

Kayce Camden asks, "I understand so if you image before you die. That is what you lose?"

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "Hrm."

Kayce Camden blinks.

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "I'm not sure what you mean, but you can't image if you're in jail."

Kayce Camden says, "I met you go back to the image you got before jail."

Kayce Camden asks, "Is that correct?"

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "Right."

Rikiar Vandalarius nods to Kayce Camden.

Kayce Camden says, "Ahh ok I got it."

Kayce Camden shifts her seat.

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "Oh, one more thing."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "When you die, your grave gets moved into a cemetary."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "NOT in the prison."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "The cemetary is to the west of Cloud Court somewhere."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "It's up to you to find it."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "Otherwise, you can claim your items at the pawn shop, like usual."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "For those that are thinking that the death penalty is somehow less than a regular jail sentance, keep in mind... if you go to jail, you're getting a fine, a pretty steep one if you're also getting the death penalty. In order to reclaim your items, you HAVE to pay your debt."

Armande Viladel asks, "How long does a sentence run?"

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "The sentance is dependant upon your crime. The minimum prison sentance for a FAILED defense is 2 hours."

Armande Viladel asks, "Of IG time?"

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "That's two hours IN GAME."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "Its RL time, but you have to be IN GAME."

Armande Viladel asks, "Are you allowed visitors in that time?"

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "Not yet, but you will in the future."

Armande Viladel sits down.

Brenton Miller asks, "What are all the factors that effect the difficulty of argueing with, persuading, or intimidating the judge?"

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "Ok, factors that affect your case difficulty are A. The crime, B. How many times you committed it before you were caught, C. Whether or not you were on parole when you were arrested, and D. Your competency level in the law or applicable skill."

• Stilldawn Kagali is next.

Stilldawn Kagali asks, "So after your death penalty has been performed, what about your items?"

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "You can pay your fine and claim your items at the courthouse lobby."

You ask, "When the death penalty does come into effect, perhaps a more severe experience penalty should be applied, similar to what Faith did with decaying? Also, will any bleeding wounds be healed, so the prisoner doesn't exsanguninate in the cell?"

Rikiar Vandalarius ponders.

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "We can look into the exp penalty. Wounds currently are not healed, if it becomes an issue, we'll look into changing that."

• Drusilla Monroe is next.

Drusilla Monroe asks, "Can a psionic call the grave from the cemetary?"

Rikiar Vandalarius asks, "Explain what call the grave does?"

Drusilla Monroe says, "It moves the grave to the place the psionic is."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "If you're not in jail, yep."

Drusilla Monroe nods.

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "If you're trying to call someone that's dead IN JAIL. No."

Aseroth Apocalypse asks, "Will you be able to use special abilities while in prison?"

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "No, techniques and the like will also be blocked."

Aseroth Apocalypse snorts.

Aseroth Apocalypse says, "Damn.."

Rikiar Vandalarius grins at Aseroth Apocalypse.

Aseroth Apocalypse says, "Ok thank you."

Stilldawn Kagali asks, "What if I am sitting down or something and a trooper comes in, am I already considered subdued?"

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "Yes."

Rikiar Vandalarius grins at Stilldawn Kagali.

Stilldawn Kagali groans.

Feldspar Fletcher asks, "If i have to really hurt someone to subdue, cuff and book them, will they bleed to death in court or jail like Glim asked?"

Feldspar Fletcher smiles.

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "If your unarmed skill is high enough (hint) or you have a magic ability that allows you to stun a criminal, bleeding shouldn't be an issue. As I said before however, if it does become an issue, I'll update it accordingly."

Feldspar Fletcher nods.

• Brenton Miller is next.

Brenton Miller asks, "Will troopers be able to become prison troopers?"

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "I was waiting for this question. The answer is yes, it's going to eventually be added to the trooper mission system."

• Kayce Camden is next.

Kayce Camden says, "What will there be to do while you are in jail. Like to pass the time while you are there."

Kayce Camden says, "And don't tell me knitting."

Kayce Camden chuckles.

Kayce Camden shifts her seat.

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "Well, a lockpick or similarly useful item will be placed in each cell, and hidden. It will be like a mini puzzle to figure out. Once you get the pick, it's going to be a "luck of the roll" as to whether you successfully pick the lock. Currently, Agents get a 1:35 chance of a successful pick and everyone else gets a 1:50 chance. The number of picks a lockpick is good for will vary slightly, but average at 10 attempts."

Rikiar Vandalarius asks, "That answer your question?"

• Stilldawn Kagali is next.

Stilldawn Kagali asks, "If I am arrested and get away from my trooper without killing him, can the handcuffs be removed somehow?"

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "You can't get away from your trooper without killing them."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "Sorry, that's the way it has to be."

Drusilla Monroe asks, "Is self defense out the window ? if im attacked and i kill the person do i go on the criminal list ?"

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "Murder is murder in Llanfair."

Drusilla Monroe nods.

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "Down the line, we may add self defense, but it's going to probably a "live" thing."

• Stilldawn Kagali is next.

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "Eventually there may be an assault crime, the system is set up to accomidate something like that, but I want to start simple and then start adding "fluff"."

Stilldawn Kagali sits down.

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "Bureaucrats can tell you what crimes are in the system. Whether they are included as something a player can do is a "wait and see" issue."

Kit Murphy asks, "Something silly... Can techs build some sort of gadget, McGyver style, out of what's found in the cell?"

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "No."

Kit Murphy says, "Aww. Okay."

Armande Viladel asks, "If the trooper arrests you and you bribe them before they get to the booking phase, are you still considered a criminal?"

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "Yes."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "If your sentance is 2 hours and you manage to leave your cell to escape and it takes you 3 hours to get out. That's the risk you take."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "That's your learning experience."

Brenton Miller says, "SEems kind of important for would be criminals though."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "Contrary to many player's beliefs, I don't play my PC that often."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "Oh, another note on the magic issue. If you have a feeling something will give people an unfair advantage, please post it on the boards. I'll try to address those as they come up."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "Ok, this is a sensitive issue. Maduk, as you know, hasn't been around much in the past few months."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "What I've done in order to allow Mercs to contribute is to pretty much treat them the same as Troopers when it comes to arrests. You book them like a trooper does and you get paid."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "If you kill them, we currently don't have a way for you to receive payment."

Aseroth Apocalypse asks, "Can we do this in town as well as out?"

Aseroth Apocalypse says, "Damn....again.."

Aseroth Apocalypse says, "Your not helping me at all here."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "You can't arrest in town, but troopers can't arrest outside town either."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "Well, you can be assured that the person will be caught and arrested, pay a hefty fine and possibly receive the death penalty (later). However that's more of an RP issue and this is more of an OOC discussion."

Sage Scorpion says, "The baby Im carrying is a Rp."

Sage Scorpion says, "I really don't care to have my roleplay ruined because someone is bored and took a disliking to me the minute i set foot in Llanfair."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "Some of you are concerned that rampant killing will pop up like occured before we shut down Pvp."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "I realize this is a concern, but that is WHY justice was created."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "Murder is going to be very very very expensive for someone who wants to engage in it as a sport."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "Not only in money, but time as well."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "You cannot gain exp or money or items while in prison."

Sage Scorpion says, "Not if that person can easily hide from the people who are available to arrest them."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "There's always someone bigger, better, stronger, faster, and more perceptive."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "Ok, if you're in a jurisdiction of Llanfair, I believe it's always auto-reported by the "locals"."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "As stealing isn't finished, I can't really answer to anything but murder."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "Oh, yes... murder will always be reported to the authorities of Llanfair. But it will only be commed to on-duty troopers."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "Otherwise, troopers and mercs will have to check a "crime bulletin board" like this one."

Kayce Camden asks, "Is there any protection for citizens outside of town or on other islands?"

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "Depends on how far out of town, and which island."

Kayce Camden says, "Say like Chodaku."

Rikiar Vandalarius says, "Chodaku is a lawful area I believe, Echak is not."
