The Basics of Being a Technician

Welcome to being a Technician!

Now that you have chosen this career path there are a few things you should know. The first thing you need to know about being a technician is where our Head is. Shavcire Wei can be found south and then northeast of Cloud Court. Simply go through the door of the Cybergear building. He is in a room to the west of the main entrance. With him you can train 2 of the primary basics of technical work, Repair and Electronics. You'll also want to train Research, you can train that along with Intellect in the alchemy building just south of the mall. Locksmithing and Coordination can be trained by one of the many people who roam the streets of Llanfair, a short cloaked Alteri. Being a technician you will also have a natural proclivity towards Pulse Weapons. If you wish to use them there is a weapon store just inside of the Darju sector, behind a large iron door. Inside the store there is an arch that leads to an area where you can train in their use.

You'll also want to be aware of the sorts of things you can do as a technician that other citizens can't. The first thing you'll be able to do is repair communicator chips. You'll want to be sure you are working on the chip of a broken communicator, and you'll need to have an electronics repair toolkit which can be purchased off the menu where Shavcire Wei is found. Before long you will also be able to repair various bits of medical gear, including optical emitters, dermal regenerators and bioscanners. Cardiostimulators take quite a long time to learn to repair. You'll also be able to repair cybergear after not much longer, and then you'll start being able to upgrade and remove upgrades from cybergear. It should be noted that if someone purchases cybergear they can install their own upgrades up until they replace their limbs with it. Eventually you will be able to repair parts you find while hunting, and then use them to build gadgets which can be useful to the citizens of Llanfair.

Finally, techs can have a droid companion that will help them with their work. When you get your 6th promotion you can purchase a simple air drone from the droid area of the tech building, it's through a door guarded by 2 inactive droids. After about your 25th promotion if you can find your way into the Aesha Vale, you can purchase a MAD Droid. You can actually purchase the droid early on, but it's recommended you wait until the 25th promotion because a MAD Droid has to have all of its parts installed before it can be operated, there is more on that on the droid page. Various toolkits and upgrades can be installed on drones and droids so that they can assist you with various tasks including, but not limited to; making potions, picking locks on boxes, and repairing things.
