Foyer

[The Silken Fold, Foyer]
Textured pale pink stucco walls and a floor of richly colored mosaic tiles depicting Echak island set the warm and inviting atmosphere here. Fabrics of every color and texture hang from the rafters in a dazzling display, advertising the quality of work that one will find on the sales floor. A few customers are seen glancing at a well placed menu as they browse through chests and trunks to make sure they do not miss any merchandise before placing their order.

You also see a spiral staircase, a gilded arch, a sea blue rala silk settee, a polished haeleio side table with a small note on it and a large sign.
You notice an exit leading out.

  • A small note reads:

Artisan (ONLY) Weaving 101

Before you can actually weave upon your loom, you must warp it. Holding your warping thread in one hand and your loom in the other, WARP your loom.

Now you are ready to begin weaving. Holding your warped loom in one hand and a skein of material in the other, you can begin to WEAVE your skein.

A small skein will create a swatch of fabric.

A medium skein will create a square of fabric.

A large skein will create a sheet of fabric.

The resultant textiles can be dyed by Collin Dautrich (if desired) and used for tailoring.

  • A large sign reads:

Silver Room

[The Silken Fold, Silver Room]
Pale blue silk wall coverings shot through with strands of finely spun silver billow gracefully down to the wide planked wood flooring. A sales girls hums softly to herself as cleans the large glass display case that rests in the center of the room.

You also see a silver door and an informative sign.

  • An informative sign reads:

The history of spinning has evolved over time and originally done without tools. The thread was drawn out of a bundle of fibers and twisted between the palm of the hand and thigh of the leg. The length of the spun or twisted fibers was wound onto a short, straight stick. The process was then repeated. The hand spindle developed from the short straight stick. Over time the stick was notched to hold the thread and a weight was added to give momentum to the stick as it whirled. The weight, known as a (whorl) was made of clay, a round piece of wood, or a flat rock. Thus was born the hand spindle or also known as the drop spindle.

While the drop spindle has also evolved into the spinning wheel, it is still a favorite tool of choice due to its simplistic nature and portability.

To begin the spinning process, you must be holding a drop spindle in one hand, and an unrefined textile in the other hand. The next step is to SPIN the textile until you have formed a skein.

Enjoy!
