History

Considered somewhat unique among the Darju people, the Tafkals have a strong sense of kinship and of their past.

Zrel Tafkal

Born the first son of Viz Tafkal and Tkartu Zofkuk, Zrel was trained from an early age as a defender and leader of his people, as all first born Tafkal sons were. A scant time later, when still but a toddler, he was followed into the world by his beloved sister Ntevkev.

Ntevkev, as with all first daughters of the Tafkal family, was trained in the art of bladedancing and formally as a Mercenary.

His other siblings, two brothers and a sister, were born when he was in his early teens. Each given a background in combat but allowed to go their own way.

Around the time of their last son's birth, Viz and Tkartu adopted a young Eolai child by the name of Ailir Iseo. The circumstances of this adoption are unclear to the brothers, though they believe that family acquaintance Glim Faethyn was behind it, as he had been staying with the Tafkal family around that time.

As the children grew up, they dispersed to the corners of Haelrahv to seek whatever pursuits pleased them. Zrel and Ailir, after roaming restlessly together for many a season, decided to settle down and work on their chosen professions, Zrel as a Trooper and his adopted brother as a Mercenary.

Zrel was assigned a post at the Queendom of Llanfair Trooper Headquarters as a new Recruit, though Ailir, Ntevkev and he met groundside on occasion.

Tafkal Family

For countless ages, the loose-knit Tafkal family have held positions of leadership among the Darju. Whether leaders of early war parties or community leaders of more recent times, they have always led their people forward. Even if it meant knocking a few heads together.

While accounts are shakey, some family scholars have traced their roots back as far as the arrival of the Darju race upon Haelrahv, in particular to Zorrzi Tafkal whose parents died before Landing.

Zorrzi's rise as a Falzek Tder(War Leader) upon the planet of Haelrahv was somewhat unusual for a female in those days, though not unheard of. Her cunning and grace in combat was matchless, her years growing up spent in blending the artful strike of the Wind Steppe Bladedancers with the deadly power of a Dark Plains Mercenaries.

During the early seasons after Landing she often took charge of raiding parties, striking out to attack the local peoples and take what was needed. She was also the first of the Tafkal line to take slaves of war, freeing her from menial work to further perfect her art of fighting.

During celebrations of a great inter-Darju conflict, Zorrzi claimed a male Darju of the opposing faction as her mate for life. His name, though shrouded by time, is believed to have been Nkezin Rmak. He soon found himself falling in love with his Master, her mind was sharp as a bloodletter and her figure as fine as a bladedancer's knife-edge.

Throughout the following years of strife and warfare, Zorrzi Tafkal laid waste to her opponents, her mate never far from her side. In time, Zorrzi retired from combat, her scars worn like the medals of honor that they were.

By this time, she and Nkezin had a fine young son of the name Nak and a daughter named Kire.

Brought up in the art of warfare, both followed in the footsteps of their parents, Nak as a head Trooper defending the home camp while Kire led raids and invasions away from home.
